Nepali Congress Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka has said that the party is ready to participate in the elections if the government creates a favorable environment.
Addressing a memorial program organized on Tuesday in Surkhet on the 13th death anniversary of former party president Govinda Bahadur Malla, Khadka said, “The Nepali Congress, a democratic party, is ready to go to elections once all necessary conditions are prepared. However, the government has not yet taken any steps to conduct the elections.”
He said that if the government is serious about holding elections, it must recover the weapons looted by infiltrators during the recent “Janjigi People’s Movement,” boost the morale of the police and security agencies, gain the confidence of the political parties participating in the elections, and ensure security assurances for the general voters.
Khadka accused the government of creating confusion and mistrust rather than preparing for elections. “Instead of creating a conducive election environment, the government is defaming party leaders with prejudice, spreading misinformation, and increasing uncertainty,” he said.
He further added, “We are open to any kind of investigation conducted through legal procedures. However, responsible individuals in the government are spreading confusion and making baseless accusations. I want to draw serious attention of the government to this matter.”
He informed that the ongoing Central Working Committee meeting of the Nepali Congress will take official decisions regarding the elections, party convention, and the current political situation.
