Chairperson of the National Assembly, Narayan Prasad Dahal, held bilateral meetings with parliamentary delegations from various countries during the 151st General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva.
Dahal, who is in Geneva to attend the IPU General Assembly, held separate meetings with parliamentary delegations from the United Kingdom, the People’s Republic of China, and Sri Lanka, according to his press advisor Delhi Malla.
Bilateral talks were held with the Chinese parliamentary delegation led by Chui Jing Tian, who also chairs the IPU Asia-Pacific Group, the UK delegation led by Fabian Hamilton, and the Sri Lankan delegation led by Sunil Watagala.
During the meetings, discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, parliamentary cooperation through parliamentary friendship groups, exchange of parliamentary experiences, and collaboration at international forums, Malla said.
Dahal informed the delegations about the recent Gen Z protests in Nepal, the formation of an interim government following the new political scenario, and the announcement of elections. He assured that Nepal is committed to conducting the elections on time to strengthen democracy.
He also sought support and cooperation from friendly nations for the reconstruction of infrastructure damaged during the protests and for the upcoming elections. Highlighting the direct impact of climate change on Nepal, Dahal emphasized the need for the global community to support developing nations like Nepal.
