Bagmati Province Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya has said that those who act against democracy will be chased out of villages and communities by the people.
Speaking at a greetings exchange program organized by the Nepali Congress District Working Committee in Bhaktapur on Wednesday, he said that Nepal’s democratic republic was established through the sacrifices of the poor, laborers, and farmers. He warned that anyone working against democracy would face strong resistance from the people.
Referring to the recent “Gen Z” movement, Chief Minister Baniya emphasized the need for reforms from the ward level to the central level to prevent such unrest from recurring in the future. He said that if the people’s elected representatives act responsibly, no one would have to fear anything.
He also stressed that democrats must stand together during times of crisis.
Speaking at the event, Nepali Congress Bhaktapur President Durlabh Thapa said that political parties with different ideologies must unite to strengthen democracy. He also mentioned that it has become necessary to move forward by uniting the Nepali Congress. Thapa noted that he has already served twice as the district president of Bhaktapur and added that due to the current political context, he might need to run for president a third time, even if it requires amending the party statute.
The general convention of the district is just one day away.
