Kathmandu — Minister for Urban Development Kulman Ghising has instructed the contractor company to complete the construction of the Federal Parliament Building within the stipulated time. After inspecting the under-construction site inside Singha Durbar today, Minister Ghising urged the contractors to prepare a daily work schedule and accelerate progress.
“The deadline has been extended for the fifth time, and the contractor has committed to completing the work by Poush 16,” Minister Ghising said. “The project must be completed within that timeframe with utmost seriousness.”
The existing parliament building in New Baneshwor sustained damage during the GenZ protests, causing difficulties in holding National Assembly meetings. “The old building was partially burned and damaged during the protests,” Ghising stated. “We need to conduct National Assembly sessions now and the House of Representatives sessions after the upcoming elections. Since repairs to the old building will take time, the new parliament building must be completed as soon as possible.”
According to the contractor’s representatives, about 87 percent of the work has been completed, with finishing tasks currently underway. They mentioned that importing some construction materials from abroad caused slight delays but assured that the remaining work would be finished by Poush 16.
The new Federal Parliament Building is being constructed on 157 ropani of land within the Singha Durbar complex.
