Medical professional Durga Prasain, who supports the restoration of the monarchy through the “Nation, Nationality, Religion-Culture and Citizen Rescue Campaign,” has said he is prepared to leave the country.
Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu on Sunday, he said Nepal is in crisis and must be saved. He added that if someone else takes on the responsibility of saving the nation, he is ready to go abroad.
“I am not someone who leaves at the slightest provocation. I have acted as far as my ability allowed to protect Nepalis from within Nepal. Now, seeing the country in crisis, I have taken a stand to save it. If you tell me to leave the country, I will go. If someone else can build the nation, I am ready to leave. But please save Nepal, bring back Nepalis from abroad, and create an environment for their return,” he said.
He also reflected on his political journey since 2000 BS (circa 1957 BS? — note: Nepali year mentioned was 2057 in the original), saying he had been involved with the CPN-Maoist, then UML, and has come to this point. Whether knowingly or unknowingly, he said, people must now reform and work to rebuild the country.
“What happened yesterday is done; we lost our way and everyone made mistakes. Now at least let us save the country — Nepal has fallen into a fragile state; let us lift it and take it to a safer, warmer place,” he said. “People seek warmth. We must change for the better now,” he added.
