The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast heavy snowfall and heavy rainfall in various parts of the country starting tomorrow, Kartik 13 (Thursday), and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has urged the public to take precautions.
Issuing a notice on Wednesday, the department stated that from Thursday morning to Friday morning, heavy snowfall is likely at one or two places in the high hilly and Himalayan regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces.
Similarly, heavy rainfall is expected at one or two places in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Lumbini Provinces, and the public has been advised to exercise caution.
Due to the weather impact, road and air transportation, agriculture, and tourism sectors may be affected. The authority has urged people to avoid unnecessary travel, stay informed about safe places if they live in flood-prone areas, remain alert along riverbanks, and harvest paddy and other crops immediately if ready.
Likewise, disaster management committees and security bodies in potentially affected districts have been asked to make necessary decisions regarding transportation management. All three security agencies, local governments, and volunteers have been instructed to remain prepared for response operations. Partner organizations have also been urged to coordinate with district and local disaster management committees and stay alert.
The department has also requested residents of Lamjung, Kaski, Myagdi, Gulmi, Palpa, Arghakhanchi, Baglung, Parbat, Syangja, and Tanahun districts to stay updated with weather information and remain cautious.
