Moderate rainfall throughout Thursday is expected to intensify into heavy rain by Thursday night, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM).
Meteorologist Sanjeev Adhikari stated that around 40 millimeters of rainfall was recorded in the past 24 hours. “This amount is considered moderate rainfall. Once it reaches 50 millimeters, it is classified as heavy rainfall,” he explained, adding that heavy rain is likely from tonight onward.
Adhikari said that moderate rain was recorded throughout the day in Bagmati, Koshi, and Madhes Provinces, with scattered showers in Gandaki and Lumbini. In the high Himalayan regions of Gandaki and Bagmati, rainfall has been accompanied by snowfall.
According to the DHM, the ongoing rainfall that began on Wednesday is expected to continue until Saturday (Kartik 15). The department has urged the public to remain cautious and take necessary safety measures.
The DHM also advised trekkers to check weather conditions before setting out on their journeys.
As this is also the paddy harvesting season, farmers have been advised to monitor the weather before harvesting. Meteorologists cautioned that due to the possibility of heavy rain, it may not be suitable to harvest immediately.
