The Kavrepalanchok District Court on Thursday ordered the release of Khagendra Sunar on NPR 50,000 bail. Judge Nagendra Kumar Kalakheti’s bench issued the bail order, according to court clerk Indira Karki.
Sunar had appeared in court Thursday morning in connection with charges of contempt of court and using abusive language against a lawyer via social media. He allegedly wrote offensive Facebook posts and conducted live sessions with verbal abuse targeting advocate Manisha Gautam. Since Gautam’s permanent address is in Kavrepalanchok, the Cyber Bureau referred the case to the District Police Office, Kavrepalanchok.
During the investigation, Sunar had been absconding, prompting police to present the case in court on Sawan 2, 2082 BS. The case, registered as 82 C1–002, was filed under government criminal proceedings. Subsequently, a warrant for Sunar’s arrest was issued on Sawan 5 to the Dailekh Police Office, his permanent address.
According to court clerk Karki, the arrest warrant initially had periods of 7 days and 35 days. Sunar’s name had also been recommended during a recent cabinet expansion but was later removed from the final list due to involvement in multiple cases.
