A total of 33 passengers were injured in a terrible road accident that occurred late last night at Tikauli Jungle, Bharatpur Metropolitan City–9, Chitwan. According to the District Police Office, Chitwan, eight of the injured are reported to be in moderate condition after two passenger buses and a truck collided.
The accident took place at around 1:45 a.m. when a Dolphin passenger bus (Ba. Pra. 0300 Kha 0123) traveling from Gaur to Kathmandu lost control and rammed into a parked truck (Na 6 Kha 813) loaded with bricks. Immediately after the collision, another Rudraksha passenger bus (Ba. Pra. 0300 Kha 3902) coming from Janakpur to Kathmandu crashed into the same bus. Police suspect that the high speed of the buses might have caused the drivers to lose control.
Both buses overturned on the road following the impact. Upon receiving the report, a rescue team from Armed Police Force, Nepal No. 17 Battalion, Ampatari, Chitwan, along with local residents, carried out rescue operations and sent the injured to various hospitals for treatment.
Among the injured, 15 are being treated at Chitwan Medical College, 13 at National City Hospital, and 5 at Bharatpur Government Hospital.
According to police, the driver of the Rudraksha bus, 43-year-old Krishna Mandal, a resident of Shahid Municipality–4, Dhanusha, has been taken into custody for investigation. The obstructed highway was cleared using cranes, and traffic resumed on a one-way basis around 3 a.m.
