Following widespread cloud cover caused by Cyclone “Motha”, Sundarharaicha in Morang district recorded the heaviest rainfall in the country on Friday, measuring 252.4 millimeters, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
Department spokesperson Dinkar Kayastha said this was an extremely heavy downpour, adding that rainfall continues in eastern Nepal and residents have been urged to take necessary precautions.
In the past 24 hours, Jhapa received 175 mm of rainfall, while Ilam recorded 158 mm. Likewise, as of 10:45 p.m. on Friday, Gorkha had recorded 190 mm of rainfall.
Other notable rainfall measurements included:
- Saptari: 156 mm
- Udayapur: 102 mm
- Manang: 115 mm
- Sunsari: 82 mm
- Nuwakot: 89 mm
- Lamjung: 82 mm
According to the Department, rainfall will remain focused mainly over Koshi Province and parts of Madhesh Province overnight, while some areas of Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces are also expected to receive rain.
Meteorologists have noted that cloud conditions are likely to gradually improve starting late tonight.
