CPN-UML leader Gokul Baskota has termed the ongoing efforts for unity among Nepal’s leftist forces as “nonsense.” He criticized the tendency of remembering the need for unity only after a split, calling it a deep-rooted problem among Nepali leftists.
Writing on social media, Baskota remarked that leftist parties in Nepal resemble the “Indian and Pacific Oceans”—merging in appearance but never truly aligning. He attributed this to “the pressure of depth and the heat of leadership.”
Baskota added that although unity is better than division, it should not become a meaningless alliance. Comparing it metaphorically, he said, “Unity should not be like a fish lying on the doorstep—ready to be fried or made into soup by anyone.”
