Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah has deleted a controversial Facebook post he made at midnight.
In the post, Shah had used objectionable language targeting India, China, the United States, and several major political parties of Nepal, including the UML, Nepali Congress, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), and the Maoist Centre.
Following widespread criticism, he removed the post shortly after publishing it.
However, screenshots of his remarks had already circulated widely on social media before it was deleted, and they continue to go viral.
The post drew strong reactions from social media users, with many condemning the use of inappropriate and offensive language by the city’s top elected official.
