India’s women’s cricket team has won the Women’s One Day International (ODI) World Cup for the first time in history.
In the final match held at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, India defeated South Africa by 52 runs to claim the championship title.
Chasing a target of 299 runs, South Africa were bowled out for 246 runs in 45.3 overs. South African captain Laura top-scored with 101 runs.
For India, Deepti Sharma took five wickets for 39 runs in 9.3 overs, while Shafali Verma claimed two wickets.
Batting first, India posted 298 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 50 overs. Shafali Verma scored 87 runs, and Deepti Sharma contributed 58 runs to the total.
South African bowler Ayabonga Khaka took three wickets for 58 runs in nine overs.
Before this historic victory, India had finished as runners-up in the 2005 and 2017 ODI World Cups and the 2020 T20 World Cup.
