The sacred pilgrimage site Devghatdham, which extends across Tanahun, Chitwan, and Nawalpur districts at the confluence of the Gandaki River, is hosting the Devghatdham Gandaki Parikrama Festival today. The festival aims to promote the religious significance and cultural heritage of the region.
The event is being organized by the Nepal Sant Samaj with the support of Devghat Rural Municipality and the Devghat Area Development Committee.
To promote the festival, a motorcycle rally was held on Monday in Devghat of Tanahun and Bharatpur of Chitwan, according to Phanindra Prasad Paudel, Principal of Mahesh Sanskrit Gurukul Devghat.
The Gandaki Parikrama (holy circumambulation) will start from the Beni confluence at Devghatdham and will cover major religious sites in the Tanahun area, including Pashupatinath Temple, Galeshwar Ashram, and Manimukundeshwar Temple.
In Chitwan, the route will include the Hanuman Temple at Devghat Bus Park, a Buddhist Monastery, World Peace Yagyashala Temple, Harihar Temple and Shree Ram Temple at Pulchowk, Narayangadh.
In Nawalpur, devotees will visit the Gopeshwar Mahadev Temple at Gaindakot Pulchowk, the famous Maulakali Bhagwati Temple, and the Veda Vidyashram, before concluding the journey back at Manimukundeshwar Chakravarti Ashram in Tanahun.
The festival includes a full circumambulation of Devghatdham, visits to Siddha Harihar Kshetra, Maulakali Bhagwati Temple, and sacred river sites. Its main objective is to promote and preserve Vedic Sanatan Dharma and Sanskrit culture.
Chairperson of Devghat Rural Municipality Til Bahadur Thapa and former chairperson of the Devghat Area Development Committee Shivraj Paudel expressed confidence that the festival will play a vital role in enhancing religious tourism in Devghat.
Similarly, Swami Atmananda Giri, head of the Galeshwar Ashram Devghatdham, and Gyanaananda Saraswati, president of the Nepal Sant Samaj, urged everyone to contribute to making the event successful.
