The Daunne section of the East-West Highway in Nawalparasi will operate one-way traffic for the next two months. The decision was made to facilitate the ongoing expansion of the Narayangadh–Butwal road and the construction of culverts along the route.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Yuvraj Khadka, chief of the Nawalpur District Police Office, the Project Directorate under the Department of Roads issued a notice today, stating that traffic will be one-way in the Daunne area until the culvert construction work is completed. SP Khadka said the construction work is progressing rapidly.
He added that running two-way traffic has been affecting the construction process, which is why authorities have decided to operate the road one-way until Poush 15 (around December 30).
In recent days, transportation along the Daunne section has been problematic due to muddy and slippery road conditions caused by recent rainfall. Many vehicles have struggled to climb uphill, leading to frequent traffic congestion. SP Khadka said that given the possibility of further disruption during rainfall, the one-way operation will continue throughout the construction period.
He also urged travelers to check road conditions before traveling and to use alternative routes in case of blockages.
Alternative routes suggested include:
- Narayangadh–Muglin–Pokhara–Syangja–Palpa–Butwal,
- Gaindakot Kaligandaki Chowk–Rampur–Pipaldanda–Palpa–Butwal, and
- For motorcycles and small vehicles, Dumkibas–Dandajor–Damar–Bhutaha route.
Travelers have complained that frequent traffic jams in the Daunne area have made journeys difficult. They have urged authorities to complete the work as soon as possible to ensure smooth and safe travel.
Since the beginning of the Narayangadh–Butwal road expansion project, the Daunne section has remained one of the most challenging stretches due to delays in hill cutting, drainage, and culvert construction, causing ongoing hardship for commuters.
