Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has reiterated the need to complete the party’s 15th General Convention on time.
Speaking at an informal meeting with available district presidents and former district presidents in Kathmandu, Dr. Koirala emphasized that the party should enter the upcoming general elections with new leadership.
He stated, “I have long been saying that the Nepali Congress’ 15th General Convention should be completed by the end of Mangsir 2082 (mid-December 2025). Even if that is not possible due to current circumstances, it must be completed by the end of Poush (mid-January 2026) at any cost.”
Dr. Koirala stressed that the party’s convention schedule should not overlap with the Election Commission’s announced election timetable.
Highlighting the need for unity and responsibility within the party, he said, “Everyone must prioritize the nation, the people, and democracy.”
Referring to the party’s past struggles, he remarked that it should now move forward with the belief that “unity is strength.”
“I want unity and reconciliation within the party — not factionalism or division,” he said.
Dr. Koirala further noted that the dedication of honest and committed cadres has kept the party strong, adding that millions of well-wishers and observers are closely watching the Congress’ next moves. He urged all members to work together with mutual trust and a sense of unity to strengthen both the party and the nation.
