Communications and Information Technology Minister Jagdish Kharel expressed the view that if a person can find happiness even in life’s difficulties and struggles, most of life can become easier and more joyful.
Speaking at the program “Awakening in Dialogue and Communication: The Rise of Happiness, Peace, and Prosperity”, organized by the Press Council Nepal in collaboration with Jeevan Vigyan on Sunday at Sanchargram, Minister Kharel said that being able to remain happy even during sorrow is the greatest form of happiness.
He stated, “Sorrow remains throughout life, but happiness is momentary. Therefore, being able to find happiness even in sorrow is life’s greatest achievement. Inner peace and happiness are true life satisfaction.”
Minister Kharel emphasized that if individuals can approach life’s challenges and hardships with self-contentment and a positive mindset rather than negativity, long-term mental peace can be maintained.
Sharing his personal experience, he noted that having been active in journalism for a long time and now taking ministerial responsibilities, his interactions with old colleagues have reduced, and the pressures of work have increased his stress.
During the program, LP Bhanu Sharma, a specialist from Jeevan Vigyan, expressed concern over the rising mental health issues in Nepal. He stated that incidents of suicide and mental stress are increasing because people are unable to find happiness within themselves.
Sharma said, “Happiness is not an external element; it is hidden within our minds. It is essential to understand how to uncover the happiness inside ourselves.” According to him, practices like Jeevan Vigyan encourage self-awareness, meditation, and introspection, which play a significant role in maintaining mental balance and reducing suicide.
Padma Raj Joshi, a member of the Press Council Nepal, highlighted that the most important aspect of life is happiness and contentment, urging every individual to learn to recognize happiness within themselves.
He added, “Those who can feel happiness are truly prosperous. Therefore, we must all integrate the awareness of happiness and peace into our lives.”
The program saw notable participation from Radika Aryal, Secretary of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Nirmala Sharma, President of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists, journalists, representatives of relevant organizations, and practitioners of Jeevan Vigyan.
