Minister for Education, Science, and Technology Mahabir Pun has made a significant decision to withdraw official recognition from teachers’, professors’, and employees’ unions affiliated with or acting as sister or well-wisher organizations of political parties.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Education, it was announced that these unions and organizations must be restructured to remain independent, non-political, and professional in nature.
The statement reads, “The Ministry informs that it has decided not to recognize teachers’, professors’, and employees’ unions or organizations that are directly or indirectly mentioned as sister or well-wisher organizations in the statutes of political parties.”
Furthermore, the Ministry has urged all such unions and associations to reorganize themselves to uphold a non-political, independent, and professional character.
The statement adds, “It is well known that professional laws governing teachers, professors, and employees in government service have clearly defined their duties, moral responsibilities, and conduct. None of these laws grant the right to engage in political activities beyond bargaining for professional rights and interests. If anyone engaged in government service is found participating in political activities, legal action — including dismissal from their position — may be taken.”
