A joint government has been formed in Madhesh Province comprising the CPN-UML, Federal Socialist Party, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP). CPN-UML Parliamentary Party leader Saroj Kumar Yadav, who was sworn in as Chief Minister early this morning as the leader of the largest party, has formed a four-member cabinet.
The cabinet includes Laxman Das from UML, Bimala Ansari from the Federal Socialist Party, and Kanchan Bichha from RPP. They have not yet been assigned specific ministerial portfolios.
Jitendra Sonal, who was appointed Chief Minister under Article 168(2) of the Constitution, resigned from his post on Kartik 23. Following his resignation, Province Chief Sumitra Subedi Bhandari appointed UML leader Yadav as Chief Minister under Article 168(3) as the leader of the largest party in the Provincial Assembly.
Province Chief Bhandari, who had left Janakpur for Kathmandu citing health treatment, has faced widespread criticism after administering the oath of office to UML leader Yadav at a hotel in Bardibas during her journey.
