The Government of Nepal has decided to approve 256 temporary officer-level positions under various bodies of the Ministry of Health and Population, according to government spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel.
Announcing the Cabinet’s decisions from the meeting held on Kartik 24, Minister Kharel said the new posts have been approved for Kanti Children’s Hospital and the Health Insurance Board in Kathmandu, as well as for Geta Hospital in Dhangadhi, Sushil Koirala Prakhar Cancer Hospital in Khajura, Banke, and Dadeldhura Hospital.
The Cabinet also accepted the resignation of Dr. Tank Prasad Barakoti, Director General of the Department of Health Services. Similarly, it decided to recommend the dismissal of Madhesh Province Chief Sumitra Subedi Bhandari and the appointment of Surendra Labh Karn of Dhanusha as the new provincial chief.
In another decision, the government prohibited any construction or tree planting within 23 meters on either side of the 400 kV transmission line being built under MCA-Nepal, affecting approximately 1,381 hectares of land across several districts including Nawalparasi, Palpa, Tanahun, Chitwan, Dhading, Sindhupalchok, Kathmandu, Nuwakot, and Makwanpur.
The Cabinet also approved conducting an organization and management survey of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation and its subordinate bodies.
Additionally, the government approved the National ID and Registration (Second Amendment) Regulation, 2082 and the Land Use (Third Amendment) Regulation, 2082.
Senior Additional Inspector General Dan Bahadur Karki was promoted to Inspector General of Police (IGP).
The Cabinet granted permission to use 25 ropani 4 ana 3 paisa of land previously belonging to the Silk Farming Development Program in Dhankuta for the construction of a Provincial Hospital.
It also approved organizing the 10th National Sports Tournament in Karnali Province from Falgun 1 to 7.
Furthermore, two Nepal Army Colonels were promoted to Major General, and the government extended by two years the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Nepal Army and the Office of Defense Cooperation of the U.S. Embassy for training support.
Lastly, the Cabinet authorized Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supplies Anil Kumar Sinha to participate in the 30th Partnership Summit 2025 in Visakhapatnam, India, on Kartik 28–29, and Science and Technology Secretary Bishwabandhu Pudasaini to attend the IAEA School on Nuclear and Radiological Leadership for Safety and Security in Sydney, Australia, from Mangsir 8 to 12.
