Voter registration has surged at the District Election Office in Myagdi as the deadline for the upcoming House of Representatives election on March 5 (Fagun 21) approaches. The Election Commission has set November 15 (Kartik 30) as the last date for voter registration.
According to Information Officer Govinda Thapa, the number of people registering their names has risen sharply in recent days. “Until last week, we used to register around 10 to 15 people daily, but since Sunday, the number has reached around 50 per day,” he said, adding that the growing pressure has sometimes caused server delays. Most new registrants are young men and women, he noted.
Many first-time voters expressed enthusiasm about participating in the election. Asmi Sapkota from Annapurna Rural Municipality–3 said she came to register because she recently became eligible to vote. “I hope to elect capable representatives who can address issues like unemployment, corruption, and inefficiency,” she said.
Similarly, Jafrin Hussain from Beni said she expects stability, good governance, development, job creation, and peace from the upcoming elections. Jasim Miya expressed hope for lasting peace, development, and prosperity in Nepal.
The Election Commission had opened voter registration from September 26 (Asoj 10). As of Tuesday, 488 new voters had been added, according to District Election Officer Bimal Prasad Gautam, who said registration services are available from 8 AM to 6 PM.
In the 2022 parliamentary and provincial elections, Myagdi had 86,120 registered voters, but the latest voter roll published on September 24 (Asoj 8) lists 84,520 voters, a decrease of 1,600. Among them, 41,174 are male, 43,345 are female, and one identifies as other. The reduction is due to the removal of deceased voters, elimination of duplicate entries, and voter relocation.
