CPN-UML Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali has announced that the party’s roadmap includes reinstatement of Parliament, amendment of the Constitution, formation of an all-party government including Gen Z representatives, and conducting an early election.
Speaking at a press conference organized by Press Chautari Dang in Tulsipur on Thursday, Gyawali stated,
“Parliament restoration, constitutional amendment, an all-party government with Gen Z, and early elections are UML’s roadmap. Under the current circumstances, holding elections makes no sense.”
He compared holding elections under the current government to the local governments during the monarchical period, suggesting they would lack legitimacy and credibility.
Although the government has declared its intention to hold elections, Gyawali accused it of failing to create a conducive environment for free and fair polls. He also criticized Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s recent remarks, saying,
“The Prime Minister’s statement that people don’t want to see political leaders’ faces shows he doesn’t want elections to happen.”
Gyawali warned that the Constitution is in a wounded state and that the current government is unconstitutional, saying,
“The Constitution is injured, democracy is at risk, and the government in power is not recognized by the Constitution. Even some ministers have been rejected by the Constitution itself.”
