The faction within the Nepali Congress advocating for a Special General Convention has called for a youth gathering. The group that submitted signatures demanding the Special General Convention is organizing a youth meet today (Friday) in New Baneshwor.
According to a Facebook post shared by the pro-convention faction, the youth gathering will begin at 12:30 PM on Friday at a banquet in Thapagaun, New Baneshwor.
On Thursday, the group also held a women’s gathering at the same location. On October 15, the faction submitted signatures from nearly 54% of representatives from the party’s 14th General Convention to Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka.
A dispute has been ongoing for a month regarding the date of the party’s General Convention since the Central Working Committee meeting began on October 14. The establishment faction maintains that the convention should take place only after the scheduled elections on March 4.
However, the rival (itar) faction argues that the party’s regular General Convention must be held before the elections. If the regular convention is not held by December, they claim that a Special General Convention will be necessary.
The discussion phase in the Central Working Committee meeting concluded on Thursday. The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday at 2 PM, according to Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel.
