Former minister and leader Ghanashyam Bhusal has stated that KP Sharma Oli, chairman of the CPN-UML, is the only obstacle to the upcoming elections.
He said there is no reason to postpone or cancel the House of Representatives election scheduled by the interim government. The interim government has set the election for Falgun 21.
Following the dissolution of the government and parliament due to the Janajati (JNG) movement, the interim government led by Sushila Karki was formed. Political parties, however, have expressed that the government has failed to create a conducive environment for the elections scheduled on Falgun 21.
While CPN-UML has pushed for the agenda of reinstating parliament, the Nepali Congress remains divided in opinion. Other political parties are reportedly willing to participate in the elections.
Bhusal announced that they, along with the CPN (Masal) led by Netra Bikram Chand, will participate in the elections. He emphasized that their political party is already established and that they will present their agenda in the upcoming elections.
According to him, KP Sharma Oli is the sole hurdle to the elections, and there is no other reason the elections would be postponed. He argued that after all political parties have campaigned, Oli will have no option but to participate.
He added that, given the government’s preparations and the political climate, there is no reason to delay the elections. Bhusal further stated that while Oli may initially avoid participating, the country’s politics and public pressure will eventually compel him to join.
