UML leader Sherdhan Rai has backed the rising anti-corruption sentiment following the Gen-Z movement and challenged the government to begin an investigation into the assets of all leaders since 2046 BS, starting with UML leaders themselves. He demanded an inquiry into the property of all ministers, lawmakers, and politically appointed leaders from that period.
Speaking at a press conference organized by Press Chautari Nepal, Bhojpur, Rai said that baseless accusations alone cannot fight corruption and that only a factual investigation can ensure accountability.
Rai argued that the government-announced House of Representatives election set for Falgun 21 cannot be held under the current circumstances. Accusing the government of irresponsibly handling the election process and moving towards “banning major political parties,” he also criticized the government for failing to investigate the thousands of weapons and prisoners who escaped during recent protests.
He claimed that the government has failed to guarantee peace and security and asserted that reinstating Parliament is essential to resolve the ongoing political crisis.
Expressing strong support for the anti-corruption agenda raised by the Gen-Z generation, Rai said that infiltration and irregularities have caused widespread damage to the country. He informed that UML is conducting nationwide awareness rallies to counter current disorder and that a mass demonstration and gathering of party workers will be held in Bhojpur on Saturday.
Rai further stated that UML is standing alone to safeguard the nation, nationalism, and past achievements, and called on all democratic forces to join together in this effort.
