A total of 133 cataract cases have been identified in the ongoing free eye camp with surgical services in Taplejung, according to data collected by the end of the second day of screenings.
On the second day of the screening and the first day of the surgery camp on Saturday, 653 people registered for eye examinations. On Sunday, an additional 197 individuals registered.
Out of the 850 people who registered, 133 patients require cataract surgery, said Rajkumar Gurung, Chairperson of the Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh, Taplejung.
A medical team led by renowned ophthalmologist Dr. Sanduk Ruit, Director of Tilganga Eye Hospital, has been conducting the surgeries since early Sunday morning.
Kajiman Thebe, Field Eye Worker at the Dichen Dongla Memorial Eye Treatment Center operated by Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh Taplejung, said preparations have been made to complete the surgery of at least 100 patients by late evening.
Dr. Ruit and his son Dr. Sagar Ruit are both involved in the surgical procedures.
The Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh had also provided screening services on Sunday, a day before the official start of the surgical camp. However, surgical services began only from Monday.
The eye camp, which will run until Wednesday, is organized by the Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh Taplejung, with support from Tilganga Eye Hospital, Tilganga Foundation, Phungling Municipality, and Seva Foundation.
