The Supreme Court has begun the hearing on a writ petition filed by five lawmakers from Madhes Province who were dismissed from their positions. The petition, submitted by Sanjay Kumar Yadav and four others, is being heard in the bench of Justice Nityananda Pandey.
The lawmakers reached the Supreme Court after the Madhes Provincial Assembly Secretariat dismissed them for missing 10 consecutive assembly meetings. The Speaker had removed four members from the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal and one from the Nagarik Unmukti Party.
Those dismissed include Urmila Devi Singh (Nagarik Unmukti Party), and Manish Kumar Suman, Sanjay Kumar Yadav, Singhansan Sa Kalwar, and Sharda Shankar Prasad Kalwar (JSP Nepal). Speaker Ramchandra Mandal issued the dismissal notice last Thursday.
The petitioners have named the Madhes Provincial Assembly Secretariat, the Secretary of Madhes Province, and the Speaker of the Madhes Provincial Assembly as defendants in the writ.
The dismissal notice was issued on the same night when 64 provincial assembly members from a seven-party alliance, including the Nepali Congress, attempted to file an impeachment proposal against Speaker Ramchandra Mandal for misconduct.
