The Nepal Communist Party, led by Loknarayan Subedi, and the Nepal Communist Party (Marxist), led by Ambika Prasad Thaiba, have officially unified.
During a program held in Kathmandu on Monday, the two parties announced their merger. Immediately after the unification, party coordinator Loknarayan Subedi expressed objections, accusing Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ of misusing the name “Nepal Communist Party.”
“The Nepal Communist Party was already registered with the Election Commission. Prachanda misused the name, and now we will go to the Supreme Court,” Subedi said.
Ambika Prasad Thaiba, chair of the Nepal Communist Party (Marxist), said the unification was necessary considering the current political crisis and ongoing class struggle in the country.
Following the merger, the unified party will operate under the name Nepal Communist Party, according to coordinator Subedi. The party stated that its guiding ideology will be Marxism–Leninism–Mao Thought.
