The death toll from the bus accident in Madina, Saudi Arabia, has risen to 45, according to a BBC News Telugu report citing Hyderabad City Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar. However, the exact number of Indian nationals among the deceased is still unclear.
Earlier, the Telangana Chief Minister’s Office stated that many people from Hyderabad were traveling on the bus. They were reportedly in Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah, a religious pilgrimage.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences over the tragic accident. He stated that the Indian Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate General in Jeddah are providing all possible assistance. Indian officials remain in constant contact with Saudi authorities.
Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi have also expressed grief over the incident.
