The motion to remove Madhesh Province Assembly Speaker Ram Chandra Mandal has been passed.
A no-confidence motion submitted by 74 members of the Provincial Assembly was endorsed during Wednesday’s session.
Mandal was elected as a Provincial Assembly member from the UML. Nepali Congress Chief Whip Kumarkanta Jha had tabled the proposal, stating that Mandal had failed to uphold the conduct appropriate for his position.
Madhesh Province has a total of 107 members, of which 3 are suspended. The motion received 76 votes in favor and zero against. With more than a two-thirds majority supporting the motion, Deputy Speaker Babita Raut Ishar declared Mandal removed from his post.
