The Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and the Ashok Rai–led Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) have reached the final stage of their unification process.
During a taskforce-level meeting held at the NCP’s central office in Paris Danda on Thursday, both parties agreed on the terms of unity, according to leader Prakash Jwala.
Speaking to the media after the discussion, Jwala said that the parties had achieved political and ideological consensus for unification.
To finalize the merger, another round of taskforce-level talks will be held on Friday.
“We held intensive discussions at the taskforce level between the Nepal Communist Party and the Janata Samajwadi Party. Yesterday, we focused more on political and ideological matters. Today, we moved the discussion toward a conclusion, prepared a draft agreement, and reviewed it with some important suggestions. Tomorrow, we will finalize it. The unity process has now reached its final stage,” he said.
Jwala also stated that the NCP is in dialogue with all groups that share similar political ideology and principles in pursuit of broader left unity.
