Kathmandu Police Office has reported that a total of 104 complaints have been registered so far in connection with the Gen-Z protests that took place on Bhadra 23 and 24. The information was shared during a press conference organized on Monday.
According to SP Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, among the registered complaints, 66 are related to government offices, 22 are personal, and 16 are from institutions and business establishments. He added that 49 deaths have been recorded in Kathmandu district during the protests, of which seven bodies are yet to be identified and have been sent for DNA testing.
SP Bhattarai further stated that seven complaints have been put on hold, and damage details have been collected from 228 locations affected during the protests.
So far, police have registered 154 cases related to the incidents, including murder, criminal vandalism, theft, illegal possession of weapons, indecent behavior, and attempted murder. Police have arrested 267 individuals in connection with these cases. Among them, 87 have been released on bail, while 113 are in judicial custody. Of those presented before the court, 23 have been released on bail, and 43 have been remanded to custody for trial. Only five of those arrested are women, he noted.
SP Bhattarai also said that 59 inmates who had escaped during the Gen-Z movement-related jailbreak have been brought back into custody. These re-arrested individuals were serving sentences for crimes ranging from attempted murder to indecent behavior. The remaining 15 escaped inmates are also in contact with police, he added.
