Kathmandu Metropolitan Police has announced that a total of 104 complaints have been registered so far in connection with the Gen-Z protests that took place on Bhadra 23 and 24.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, SP Pawan Kumar Bhattarai said that among the registered complaints, 22 are personal, 66 are related to government offices, and 16 are from institutions and business entities.
According to him, 49 deaths have been recorded in the Kathmandu Police jurisdiction during the protests. Seven of the deceased are yet to be identified, and DNA testing has been initiated for identification.
SP Bhattarai added that seven complaints have been put on hold. Police have collected details of damages from 228 different locations related to the protests.
He informed that 154 cases have been filed related to offenses including homicide, criminal disturbance, theft, possession of illegal weapons, indecent behavior, and attempted murder. So far, police have arrested 267 individuals in connection with these cases.
Among them, 87 have been released on bail pending investigation, while 113 are in judicial custody. Of the accused presented before the judicial process, 23 have been released on bail, while 43 have been remanded to custody for trial. Only five of those arrested are women.
He also stated that 59 inmates who escaped during the Gen-Z protest jailbreak have been brought back into custody. According to him, the re-arrested inmates were serving sentences for offenses ranging from attempted murder to indecent behavior. He further added that the remaining 15 fugitives are also in contact with the authorities.
