Tension escalated inside the Singha Durbar premises after Prime Minister Sushila Karki left without meeting representatives of the Gen-Z movement.
Various Gen-Z groups had planned to meet the Prime Minister to present their demands and submit a memorandum. The situation turned tense when PM Karki did not give them the scheduled time.
Protesters chanted slogans claiming that instead of addressing their demands, the Prime Minister simply walked away. After being denied the chance to hand over their memorandum, they pasted it on the wall of the Singha Durbar building.
As the Gen-Z groups began showing signs of anger, security inside the premises was tightened. Many members of the movement reached the main entrance of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.
As representatives from different groups gradually gathered at the gate, the crowd kept increasing, prompting authorities to deploy additional security personnel.
The protesters vowed to stay at the gate until the Prime Minister agreed to meet them. They also called for the resignation of PM Karki’s Chief Personal Secretary, Adarsh Kumar Shrestha, accusing him of appointing his relatives within the Prime Minister’s secretariat.
