UML Senior Vice-President Ishwar Pokharel has officially announced his candidacy for the position of party Chair at the upcoming 11th General Convention. Issuing a statement on Tuesday, Pokharel said he is contesting with the goal of party restructuring and transformation.
In his statement, he wrote, “I am committed to developing the UML into a decisive national force by assigning responsibilities according to the qualifications, capabilities, and interests of party comrades, and by promoting collective leadership and initiative. Respecting the principles of internal democracy that I have advocated, I expect Party Chair KP Sharma Oli to play a positive role in the leadership transition. I request the Chair to facilitate a smooth process through his guardian-like role.”
Pokharel further emphasized that safeguarding the party, protecting the nation, and prioritizing the welfare of the Nepali people must remain the UML’s top priorities moving forward.
