The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the match schedule for the upcoming T20 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka next year. According to the schedule made public on Tuesday, Nepal will play its opening match against England.
The tournament will take place from February 7 to March 8, with Nepal placed in Group ‘C’. The group includes Nepal, two-time champions West Indies, one-time champions England, Bangladesh, and Italy. Nepal will face England and Italy for the first time. Nepal had defeated West Indies 2–1 in the three-match series held in Sharjah in September. This will be Nepal’s third appearance in the T20 World Cup.
The 20 participating teams have been divided into four groups, with the top two from each group advancing to the Super Eight. The Super Eight will further be split into two groups, from which the top two teams will qualify for the semifinals.
As per the schedule, the tournament final is slated to be held in Ahmedabad. However, if Pakistan qualifies for the final, the title match will be played in Sri Lanka.
Group ‘A’ consists of India, Pakistan, the USA, the Netherlands, and Namibia. Group ‘B’ features Australia, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Ireland, and Oman, while Group ‘D’ includes South Africa, New Zealand, Afghanistan, Canada, and the UAE.
