
Police have arrested two individuals on charges of purchasing bones stolen from a corpse being cremated at the Pashupati Aryaghat.
The arrested are 42-year-old Ramanandan Thakur, originally from Lalbandi in Sarlahi and currently residing in Kapan, and 41-year-old Mishrilal Yadav, originally from Balan Bihul Rural Municipality in Saptari and currently living in Gaurighat. Police stated they were taken into custody on Thursday.
Earlier, on Shrawan 23, Ganesh Prasad Dhalka and his accomplice Vinayak Mainali were arrested for allegedly removing bones from the burning pyre of Ram Shahi of Banepa Municipality–9, Kavre, and selling them.
Preliminary police investigations revealed they had sold the bones to another person for Rs 500. Police recovered bone powder and ashes, wrapped in plastic, from Thakur’s possession. The Gaushala Police Circle is conducting further investigation into the case.
