The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and the Bibeksheel Sajha Party have officially unified. The announcement was made on Sunday during a formal event held at the National Assembly Hall in Kathmandu, where top leaders from both parties signed a unification declaration.
From the RSP, Acting Party President Dol Prasad Aryal, Vice President and High-Level Dialogue Committee Coordinator Dr. Swarnim Wagle signed the document. From the Bibeksheel Sajha Party, Chairperson Samikshya Baskota and Vice Chairperson as well as Coordinator of the Political Dialogue Committee Prakash Chandra Pariyar signed on behalf of their party.
Leaders from both sides stated that the unification is crucial to strengthening the agenda of alternative politics, transparency, and good governance.
The two parties reached a five-point agreement, which includes recognition of the RSP’s political principles and leadership without conditions. It also acknowledges the contribution of the late Ujjwal Thapa and the broader Bibeksheel movement to value-based alternative politics.
According to the agreement, a special mechanism under the Federal Leadership Platform will nominate leaders coming from the unification process into the RSP until the party’s first national general convention. Members of this platform will receive Central Committee seniority. Similarly, Bibeksheel Sajha Party members and advisors will be appropriately integrated into the party’s central, provincial, and local structures based on competence, inclusion, and public reputation.
Following the unification, the party name will remain “Rastriya Swatantra Party”, and the election symbol will continue to be the bell, confirmed Dialogue Committee Deputy Coordinator Shishir Khanaal.
The announcement event was attended by leaders and cadres from both parties.
