The Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court has issued a show-cause order in the petition filed by the CPN (UML) challenging the dissolution of the Parliament.
The petition was filed by UML’s former Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula and Whip Sunita Baral.
The Constitutional Bench—comprising Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut and Justices Sapana Pradhan Malla, Kumar Regmi, Hari Prasad Phuyal, and Dr. Manoj Sharma—has ordered the Office of the President and other defendants to submit a written response within seven days, explaining the reason for the dissolution of Parliament.
Additionally, the bench has instructed that UML’s petition be attached together with the earlier writ filed by public interest litigator Dr. Prem Raj Silwal, which also challenges the Parliament dissolution.
