The CPN-UML has decided to use electronic voting machines (EVMs) to elect its new leadership during the upcoming 11th National General Convention.
To make the leadership selection process faster and more efficient, the party will use EVMs during the convention scheduled to be held in Kathmandu from December 12 to 14 (Mangsir 27–29).
“We have decided to use electronic voting machines for leadership selection,” said UML Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali. “The tender process has already begun, and a decision will soon be made on which company will handle it.”
UML had previously used EVMs during the 10th National General Convention held in Chitwan.
This General Convention will elect a total of 251 Central Committee members, including 15 office bearers.
The number of central committee members was reduced after the second Statute Convention, held in August, endorsed amendments to the party statute.
Approximately 2,200 representatives are expected to participate in the UML’s National General Convention.
