Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Vice-President Rabindra Mishra has expressed doubt that the recently announced election will be able to put Nepal’s politics back on the right track.
Speaking at RPP’s mass demonstration and assembly held in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Mishra said that although the Gen-Z generation believes elections are the only solution, it is important for them to understand that the upcoming election may not bring the political changes they expect.
He questioned the expectations behind the Gen-Z movement, asking:
“Was the Gen-Z movement meant to bring the 2084 election forward to 2082? Was it meant just to add a few new faces and a few new parties? Was it intended to continue the existing status quo? If not, then the Gen-Z generation must understand that this election will not fix politics in the way they imagine.”
Mishra further warned that if elections are held without forging a new understanding among political parties, the Gen-Z generation, and the monarchy, the same old parties might return to power. In such a scenario, he said, the agenda of restoring the monarchy could remain sidelined for a long time.
Criticizing the government leadership, he remarked that even during times of national crisis, the President has failed to address the nation. He also questioned whether, in future crises, the responsibility would fall on the army chief. Mishra reiterated that reinstating the monarchy is essential to stabilizing the nation.
