CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has issued a message on the occasion of the 76th International Human Rights Day, stating that human rights are the inherent rights of every individual and ensuring them is the responsibility of the state.
In his message, he highlighted that Dalits, women, indigenous communities, Madhesi, Muslim, Tharu, and other marginalized groups are still facing discrimination, violence, and lack of opportunities. According to him, without safeguarding the rights of these communities, an inclusive democracy and an equitable society cannot be achieved.
The message states that although Nepal’s Constitution—secured after various historical political movements including the People’s War, the 19-day People’s Movement, and other struggles—has institutionalized human rights, practical implementation remains challenging.
He noted that victims of conflict-era cases have been waiting for years, demanding that the state take immediate steps to advance the process of truth-seeking and reparations under transitional justice mechanisms.
Prachanda emphasized that the full implementation of human rights is essential for building social justice, equality, prosperity, and a strong democracy. He expressed hope that Human Rights Day would inspire everyone to stand united against discrimination and oppression.
