The Department of Roads under the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport is set to speed up the upgrading and expansion of important sections of the Prithvi Highway and the Mahendra Highway.
In a public notice, the ADB Project Directorate of the Department of Roads published detailed information about various road projects being implemented with loan assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
According to the Directorate, a new two-lane road will be constructed under the Muglin–Pokhara section of the Prithvi Highway, stretching from Muglin Bazaar across the Trishuli River (towards Gorkha) to the west of the Marsyangdi Hydropower Project.
In addition, the existing highway from that point westward to Abu Khaireni will be widened to four lanes.
Similarly, significant upgrades will take place along the Narayangadh–Hetauda section of the Mahendra Highway. Notably, a 2-kilometer flyover will be built in the Gondrang–Tikauli Forest area.
The Gondrang–Tikauli Forest segment up to the Rapti River Bridge will be expanded to a four-lane highway in open and forest areas, including the flyover.
In settlement and residential areas, the four-lane main highway will include one additional service lane on each side. In urban areas, the four-lane main road will include two additional service lanes on each side, along with drains, footpaths, pedestrian bridges, and vehicle overpasses.
Stating that road expansion and upgrading work has already begun, the Directorate has urged the public not to construct houses, sheds, or other structures by encroaching on the road boundaries.
For smooth project implementation, the notice also requests concerned authorities and the public to relocate electricity poles, sewage lines, drinking water pipes, and other public utilities from the road area and refrain from building any new structures.
