The historic 11th National Convention of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) begins today. Party Chair KP Sharma Oli is scheduled to inaugurate the convention at 12 noon at Salla Ghari in Bhaktapur.
According to Rajendra Gautam, Head of the Party’s Publicity and Publication Department, Chair Oli will address the inaugural assembly at the same venue. The party has claimed that around 300,000 people are expected to participate in the opening ceremony. Gautam said party cadres are arriving in large numbers from across the country to make the historic convention grand, with participation from every ward of Bagmati, Madhesh, and Gandaki provinces, as well as a significant presence from other provinces.
Gautam also said the inauguration will be carried out in a special manner using technology, though the party has not disclosed details of this method. In his inaugural address, Chair Oli is expected to clarify the current complex political situation and outline possible ways forward for party cadres and the general public. Cultural processions and tableaux representing various regions, including Kathmandu Valley and other parts of the country, are also planned for the event. Leaders from 16 political parties, including the Nepali Congress, have been invited as guests to the opening session.
Special traffic and route arrangements have been made for participants attending the inaugural ceremony. Vehicles coming from the western side will be allowed up to Gatthaghar, with parking arranged at an open ground in Sanothimi. Vehicles arriving from the east will be parked at Jagati. From both Gatthaghar and Jagati, participants will proceed to the venue in organized processions. Those coming from the Nagarkot area have been directed to park on the northern side of Salla Ghari, while participants from all wards of Bhaktapur will also march to the venue in processions.
A total of 2,262 representatives have been elected for the convention. After the conclusion of the inaugural session, the closed-door session will begin from tomorrow morning at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu. The party’s 10th National Convention was held in Sauraha, Chitwan, in 2021 (2078 BS).
