In the IPL 2026 clash at the Wankhede Stadium, Punjab Kings continued their unbeaten run with a dominant 7-wicket win over Mumbai Indians on Thursday.
Chasing a target of 196, Punjab comfortably reached 196/3 in just 16.3 overs to register their fourth win of the season. With this victory, Punjab moved to the top of the points table with 9 points from 5 matches (4 wins, 1 no result).
Mumbai won the toss and chose to bat first but managed only 195/6 in 20 overs. Quinton de Kock played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 112 runs off 60 balls, hitting 8 fours and 7 sixes, but failed to take his team to victory. Naman Dhir scored 50 runs, while captain Hardik Pandya was restricted to 14. The rest of the batting lineup failed to reach double figures.
Punjab’s bowling attack was led by Arshdeep Singh, who turned the game with figures of 3 wickets for 22 runs in 4 overs and was named Player of the Match. Marco Jansen and Shashank Singh picked up one wicket each.
In response, Punjab’s chase was clinical. Opener Prabhsimran Singh smashed an unbeaten 80 off 39 balls with 11 fours and 2 sixes. He shared a crucial 139-run third-wicket partnership with captain Shreyas Iyer, who scored 66 off 35 balls, including 5 fours and 4 sixes. Priyansh Arya (15) and Cooper Connolly (15) were dismissed, while Jansen remained unbeaten on 10.
For Mumbai, A. M. Ghazanfar took two wickets and Shardul Thakur claimed one.
With this loss, Mumbai’s campaign worsened. After winning their opening match against Kolkata Knight Riders, they have now suffered four consecutive defeats against Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Punjab. Mumbai now sit ninth on the table with just 2 points from 5 matches.
Punjab, meanwhile, have beaten Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Mumbai, while their match against Kolkata was washed out due to rain.
In today’s (Friday) IPL Match 25, Gujarat Titans will face Kolkata Knight Riders at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
