Candidates contesting the upcoming House of Representatives election will no longer be allowed to collect financial support or donations through their personal bank accounts. The Election Commission has made it mandatory for all political parties and independent candidates to open a separate bank account exclusively for election purposes.
According to Election Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, some candidates in previous elections had raised donations through their personal accounts. Under the new provision, all financial transactions related to the election must be conducted only through an election-specific account recognized by the Commission.
The new rule aims to ensure clean elections and transparent financial management. In past elections, controversies had arisen after some candidates publicly shared their personal account details on social media to solicit donations.
As per the Commission’s latest directive, candidates are required to disclose details of their income and expenditure, and collecting donations through personal accounts is strictly prohibited. The Commission expects this measure to help reduce irregularities and corruption during elections.
The Election Commission has also informed candidates that they must open their designated election accounts on time and ensure that all election-related financial transactions are carried out solely through those accounts.
