In the upcoming House of Representatives election, candidates ranging from 25 years of age to over 80 have been included in the proportional representation closed list. According to details released by the Election Commission, women candidates are more prevalent in younger age groups, while men dominate comparatively in the older age brackets.
Election Commission Assistant Spokesperson Kul Bahadur GC stated that a total of 3,135 candidates have been included in the closed list, of whom 1,772 are women and 1,363 are men. In the 25–29 age group, there are 117 women and 51 men, totaling 168 candidates. The 30–34 age group includes 201 women and 84 men, while the 35–39 group has 268 women and 133 men. Similarly, in the 40–44 age group, there are 341 women and 194 men, and in the 45–49 group, 294 women and 162 men are listed.
In the higher age brackets, the trend reverses. The 50–54 age group includes 220 women and 166 men, while the 55–59 group has 155 women and 200 men. In the 60–64 age group, there are 103 women and 158 men, and in the 65–69 group, 44 women and 114 men. The 70–74 age group includes 19 women and 67 men, the 75–79 group has nine women and 23 men, and among those aged above 80, there is one woman and 11 men, making a total of 12 candidates.
Based on inclusive groups, the closed list includes 911 candidates from Indigenous Nationalities, 946 from Khas Arya, 425 Dalits, 203 Tharus, 502 Madhesis, and 148 Muslims.
A total of 64 political parties submitted their closed lists to the Election Commission on Poush 13 and 14. Among them, only 22 parties submitted candidates for all 110 proportional seats. Following complaints filed against the submitted lists, the Commission decided to remove 76 candidates from the closed list. These included 21 candidates blacklisted by the Credit Information Center, 25 whose names were already included in provincial assembly proportional lists, 10 who had not paid fines imposed by the Commission, four who had not completed 25 years of age, one not listed in the voter registry, two not belonging to designated backward areas, one male candidate submitted in place of a required female candidate, 10 removed at the request of their respective parties, and two for other reasons.
According to the Commission, the average number of parties submitting candidates per election symbol stands at 60. Ten parties submitted closed lists for the minimum of 11 seats, while 10 parties opted for a single election symbol. Although 93 political parties applied to contest the proportional system, only 63 submitted closed lists, and election symbols were finalized for 57 parties.
