Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Dr. Madan Prasad Pariyar has said that the government has placed soil management at the top of its priority list.
Speaking at an event organized in Lalitpur on Friday to mark the 12th World Soil Day, Minister Pariyar said the Central Agricultural Laboratory has been providing soil and fertilizer testing services to farmers.
He added that nationwide soil testing is underway to update the country’s digital soil map. According to him, the government is actively working on soil testing, the use of balanced fertilizers, and enhancing the capacity of technicians and farmers.
He said, “Soil management has remained a key priority of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development. Soil and fertilizer testing services are being provided through the Central Agricultural Laboratory under the Department of Agriculture. In coordination with the Department of Agriculture, the Central Agricultural Laboratory, the National Soil Science Research Centre, and provincial laboratories, soil testing is being conducted across the country to update the digital soil map. This will help farmers understand the nutrient status of their soil and apply balanced fertilizers accordingly. Capacity-building programs on soil testing and the proper use of fertilizers—both chemical and organic—are being carried out regularly.”
Minister Pariyar further stated that the government is also working with concrete plans for the management of chemical and organic fertilizers.
