All 13 people who lost their lives in a wedding party bus accident in Baitadi have now been identified. According to the District Police Office, Baitadi, the death toll reached 13 after five more injured passengers, who had been referred for treatment to Dadeldhura Hospital, died during treatment.
Three critically injured passengers have been referred to Dhangadhi for further treatment, while 27 others are receiving treatment at Dadeldhura Hospital. Police said that both the bride and groom are safe.
The accident occurred on Thursday evening at Badgaun Mod of Purchaudi Municipality–7, when a Pawan Doot Transport bus (registration number Supa Pra 02001 Kha 1119) carrying wedding guests crashed. Six people died on the spot, while seven others succumbed to their injuries during treatment.
Those who died at the scene have been identified as 40-year-old Keshavraj Joshi, 13-year-old Ashokraj Joshi, 35-year-old Basanta Joshi of Bitthadchir Rural Municipality–7, Bajhang; 60-year-old Mohandev Bhatt of Kedarsyun Rural Municipality; 40-year-old Basantaraj Ratala of Jayaprithvi Municipality–7; and 40-year-old Pushpa Awasthi of Purchaudi Municipality–7, Baitadi.
Similarly, 41-year-old Bishnudatta Joshi and 42-year-old Nareshraj Joshi of Bitthadchir Rural Municipality–7 died during treatment earlier.
Police said five more victims died overnight during treatment at Dadeldhura Hospital. They have been identified as 17-year-old Bisandatta Joshi, 28-year-old Dipakraj Joshi, and 46-year-old Kisandatta Joshi of Bitthadchir Rural Municipality–7, Bajhang; along with 27-year-old Keshavraj Bhatt and 15-year-old Sushil Joshi of Purchaudi Municipality–7, Baitadi.
The bus fell about 200 meters off the road. Police have taken the bus driver, Birendra Budha, into custody for investigation.
