Although the government had promised a monthly pension to the 42 families of martyrs of the Janajati (JENJI) movement, it has transferred NPR 11.9 crore to the account of the JENJI Martyr Welfare Society as a one-time grant.
The amount was released through the Ministry of Urban Development following a Cabinet decision on Poush 21, 2082.
While there was an agreement to provide families with a monthly subsistence allowance of NPR 28,000 for 10 years, legal provisions were unclear, prompting the release under the “grant” category instead.
Officials of the Martyr Welfare Society have expressed uncertainty on how to distribute the fund, citing potential legal issues if distributed directly as monthly payments and administrative difficulties if handled through programs.
Previously, the government had also provided NPR 15 lakh each to 53 families and is in the final stage of offering contractual jobs at Nepal Electricity Authority to 35 individuals.
Additionally, monthly allowances ranging from NPR 4,000 to 9,000 have been decided for those injured in the movement. So far, 2,522 injured individuals have been recorded, with 745 receiving identification cards.
Programs for relief and rehabilitation are ongoing under the Physical Infrastructure Reconstruction Fund, which currently holds around NPR 3 crore remaining.
